September is coming to an end and that means that fall is already knocking at the door. So there's plenty to do to prepare the home for the new season, when we'll be spending more time indoors with family and friends. Personally, I like to write lists with tasks to check off and stick to them to better control the whole home cleaning process. If you're worried that you'll forget some important chore, I'll share mine with you... Fall Home Cleaning Checklist Cleaning certain household appliances, refreshing the curtains, cleaning the living room carpet, getting out mid-season clothes... these are just some of the essential fall tasks. However, there are also less obvious home cleaning chores that we often tend to forget. I like to go room by room, as I don't get too tired doing it, and I can accomplish everything within 2 or 3 days. What to Clean in September and October, Room by Room? If the next 2 days are expected to be rainy, it is probably a good time to start the fall home cleaning. Otherwise, October is fast approaching and there will undoubtedly be some dull weekends that are perfect for doing this. So, without further ado, here is my little fall home cleaning checklist! Clean the Bathroom and Toilet The bathroom and toilet require quite a bit of effort when it comes to maintaining them and I like to start with these two rooms to know that “the worst is already over”. What are the must-dos? Clean sanitary ware - toilet and toilet tank, and polish the taps. Polish the mirrors and the shower cabin (if you have one) Wash the shower curtain and bathroom/toilet rugs. Inspect tile joints for signs of mold and scrub them. Fall Home Cleaning: The Kitchen Fall home cleaning in the kitchen also includes essential operations and there are quite a few places to clean. This is what I never skip: Clean the fridge inside and out. Clean and disinfect the dishwasher. Run an empty cycle (without dishes) with a bowl of white vinegar and clean the dishwasher filter. Degrease the oven and stove tops. Clean and deodorize the microwave, fryer and other heating appliances. Polish the cabinets, backsplash and countertop (coat natural stone countertops, varnish wooden furniture, if any). Refresh curtains, rugs and other kitchen textiles. Wash and disinfect all trash cans. Dusting furniture (oiling solid wood, if necessary), green plants, screens, etc. Clean the living room carpet, first with a vacuum cleaner. Tips for cleaning living room carpet naturally To deep-clean and deodorize a living-room carpet in a 100% natural way, you can spray it with white vinegar after dusting it with a vacuum cleaner. Using this common household and culinary product, you can even remove a red wine stain, especially if you soak the stained area with sparkling water first! You can also do a sort of DIY dry cleaning by wiping down your carpets, mattresses, and upholstered furniture with a microfiber cloth or washcloth dipped in a solution of baking soda in water. It's a brilliantly simple method! Bedroom Maintenance Refresh bedding that you don't wash frequently (clean your duvet and wash yellowed pillows, among other things). Vacuum mattresses and turn them (when reversible). Bring out seasonal clothes. Dust the blinds or wash the curtains. Other Home Cleaning Tasks All around the house, clean the windows, clean frames, mosquito nets and sills, wipe baseboards, door handles and switches. Vacuum under all beds and sofas and behind storage/other large furniture. Wash the washable filters of your vacuum cleaner and air conditioning, clean the washing machine, clean the ceiling fans, sweep the chimney and the wood or pellet stoves.
