How to clean a coffee maker?
Up for cleaning your coffee maker with ingredients you can find in the kitchen?
What you will need:
- water
- dish soap
- sponge
- white vinegar
- baking soda
- paper coffee filters
- rice
Instructions:
Step 1: Make sure you wash all the removable parts of the coffee maker with warm water and dish soap. Often, these parts are even dishwasher safe, so you can put them there for a faster cleanse. Don’t forget to clean the outside of the warming plate. Occasionally, spills burn on there. After, leave the reservoir lid open to dry completely.
Step 2: It’s important to clean your coffee maker at least every three months, so hard water minerals don’t build up. When this does happen, here is how to decalcify your coffee maker: If you have a charcoal water filter, remove it from the reservoir. Fill it with equal parts water and white vinegar. Then place a paper filter into the empty basket of the coffee machine. Put the pot in place and brew the concoction until the light for adding water lights up. Remove the concoction from the pot and let the machine sit for 30-60 min.
Step 3: Now empty, thoroughly wash and replace the water reservoir. Fill it with clear water. Place a new paper filter and brew a full pot of clear water until the light for water lights up again. If the scent of vinegar is still noticeable, brew another cup or two of clean water until it’s gone. Place a new charcoal filter per its directions.
Step 4: Want to make your coffee carafe sparkle? A carafe should be washed after every use. Over time, however, it can start to look overused. In cases like these, rice can help! Fill in your carafe with warm, soapy water and add a small portion of uncooked rice. Stir the mixture to prevent gunk. Now dip a sponge in some baking soda and scrub any remaining debris. Rinse well.
