Holiday Cleaning Checklist 2023
Every time I decide to invite friends over for my birthday or other big occasion, I roll up my sleeves and get to cleaning! Sometimes I feel inspired or have a lot on my mind and spend maybe too much of my time scrubbing the bathroom floor or cleaning out each cabinet with food and ingredients. But this is not required. As a matter of fact, what’s most important is that you make your home appear clean and clutter-free. Concentrate your efforts on areas where you know that people will be passing through, like the living room, kitchen, and bathroom. Here’s a simple holiday cleaning checklist to guide you.
How to Clean the Living Area Before the Holidays?
Most times, when you invite people over for the holidays, these get-togethers tend to be focused in the living areas, such as the dining and living rooms. If you’ve already planned that the main gathering will be in these rooms, make sure you follow this checklist:
- Vacuum and mop the floors
- Clear any visible dust on surfaces
- Store anything that doesn’t belong in these rooms
- Fluff the pillows and sofa cushions
- Beat the dust or gathered debris out of your throws
Bonus tip: Personally, I like to add a fresh and atmospheric touch to all rooms after I’ve cleaned them and before having guests. Light scented candles in the living and dining room to greet your guests into a cozier living space.
Tips for Quickly Cleaning the Kitchen
When I have friends over for the holidays, there are always platters of food and drinks waiting to be served. Hence, the kitchen is always in use. For a quick holiday kitchen cleanup, focus on the following main points:
- Clean any dirty dishes
- Clean the basin
- Replace kitchen towels
- Wipe down countertops
- Store unneeded items
- Wipe down kitchen appliances
Bonus tip: Again, for an even more sightly appearance, arrange a vase of fresh holiday-themed flowers on one of the countertops or a bar if you have one in your kitchen. Make sure it’s displayed in a placed where it won’t easily get pushed over.
Holiday Cleaning Checklist for the Bathroom
A clean bathroom is always a must, and you should especially aim your efforts into properly cleaning this part of your home, as it will be most frequently used once you have guests over. What tasks should you complete?
- Clean the toilet with a cleaning detergent
- Wipe down the sink and countertops with a detergent
- Remove all personal products from the vanity
- Replace the hand towels with fresh ones
- Wash or mop the bathroom floor
- Remove any clutter that’s been left behind
- Clean the mirrors from streaks and water spots
- Refill the soap bottle
Bonus tip: A great idea would be to stock up the bathroom with extra supplies like towels and toiletries. Spray a little air freshener in the bathroom and put one for the toilet.
