Every time I decide to invite friends over for my birthday or other big occasion, I roll up my sleeves and get to cleaning! Sometimes I feel inspired or have a lot on my mind and spend maybe too much of my time scrubbing the bathroom floor or cleaning out each cabinet with food and ingredients. But this is not required. As a matter of fact, what’s most important is that you make your home appear clean and clutter-free. Concentrate your efforts on areas where you know that people will be passing through, like the living room, kitchen, and bathroom. Here’s a simple holiday cleaning checklist to guide you.

Most times, when you invite people over for the holidays, these get-togethers tend to be focused in the living areas, such as the dining and living rooms. If you’ve already planned that the main gathering will be in these rooms, make sure you follow this checklist:

  • Vacuum and mop the floors
  • Clear any visible dust on surfaces
  • Store anything that doesn’t belong in these rooms
  • Fluff the pillows and sofa cushions
  • Beat the dust or gathered debris out of your throws

Bonus tip: Personally, I like to add a fresh and atmospheric touch to all rooms after I’ve cleaned them and before having guests. Light scented candles in the living and dining room to greet your guests into a cozier living space.
