Apple cider vinegar is a wonderful, easy-to-use natural remedy against ticks. Though, when it is in solution only with water, it doesn’t kill these parasites, but repels them.
Apple cider vinegar as a defense drink for your dog
- Pour 4 cups (1 L) water in a bowl
- Add 1 teaspoon of apple cider
- Add the solution to your dog’s bowl.
This solution is suitable for dogs, which have allergy reactions when applying stronger repellents. Use this simple mixture every day, to help keep ticks away from your pet.
Tick repelling spray with cider vinegar for your dog
This repellent made with cider vinegar is no money consuming and suitable for daily application to your pet. The main advantage of the method is that it may replace the application of other stronger remedies against ticks, if your dog has an allergic reaction when using them. It will take you only a few minutes to prepare this simple remedy.
- Pour 1 cup (240 ml) water in a bowl
- Mix with 1 cup (240 ml) cider vinegar
- Spray the dog’s fur everywhere, especially on its paws.
You may spray your dog every day in the morning, when you intend to go out with your pet.
Tick repellent for people, lawn furniture and your dog
The following repellent solution can be used for people, lawn furniture and dogs. The added organic neem oil strengthens the effect of apple cider vinegar.
- 2 cups (470 ml) of water
- 2 tbs of organic neem oil
- 4 tbs of apple cider vinegar
Mix these ingredients and pour int0 a spray bottle. This repellent can be sprayed on your clothing, and exposed skin, and on dog’s fur. It won’t damage your lawn furniture, so you can spray on it as well. Though, it’s not suitable for use in the garden or on the lawn, as it may damage some of the plants there.
Does vinegar kill ticks in dogs?
If your dog is allergic to chemicals, or if you want a natural repellent against ticks and fleas, make the following simple apple cider vinegar wash solution.
Get rid of ticks or fleas from your dog
In this solution, the power of the apple cider vinegar is strengthened with the natural made Castille soap.
- Pour 1 quart (1 L) warm water
- Add 1 ounce of Castille soap
- Add 2–3 drops of cedar or lavender oil
You should bathe your dog wearing gloves and a long-sleeved shirt. Treat your pet with this solution, using fingers to wet through fur to the skin. Be careful not to get the solution in the dog’s eyes. Let this bath solution stay for 9–10 minutes. If the infestation is bad, there should be a second bath. If your dog has fleas, use a flea comb, with which to comb the fur. Each time you comb out some of the fur, dip the comb in a bowl with the same solution to get rid of the fleas. Finally, rinse your pet with warm water.

There are some strong essential oils, apart from neem oil, that have similar effects to vinegar, but can be applied to your lawn.
Citrus fruits repellent
- Take the peels of 3 lemons and 5 oranges
- Boil them for 5–6 minutes
- Let them stay in the water for 24 hours
While boiling the lemon and oranges peels, and especially after staying, the citrus oil will dissolve in the water. Now, it’s time to get rid of the parasites from all over the place you live. Pour the water into a spray bottle. With this fruit oil solution, you may spray not only your dog, but all around your house and on the lawn. Lemon juice in combination with witch hazel can be used for the same purpose.
