How to organize your makeup properly and sort it out with the KonMari method?
There’s no space Marie Kondo can’t organize, including your makeup bag. Don’t you think it’s time to clean up that complete mess of spilled eye shadow, powder and foundation?! Go ahead! Here’s how to organize your makeup properly and sort it out with the KonMari method!
How to organize your makeup properly?
You’re probably tired of hearing it, but the starting point for this process always begins with the motto “If you don’t like it, you don’t need it”. So, open your makeup bag and take everything out. If you are a real fan of this art, I’m sure you also have a drawer, a box or a shelf full of lipsticks, eye shadows and highlighters. Take them out as well so you have everything in one place. Then take each product one by one and ask yourself these questions:
- Do I really need it?
- Does it make me feel happy and confident?
Also, you can check the expiration date, because we often forget it when it comes to makeup. Is your collection shrinking? Don’t worry! Less is more. It is better to have fewer products, but of high quality and better suited to your personal style. So, here’s how to sort according to Marie Kondo! And remember: To organize your makeup properly, focus on the things you want to keep, not the ones you want to throw away. And before you open the trash can, think of your friends first. Someone can really appreciate what you are willing to let go.
Next, you should definitely clean everything up. I’m sure your makeup bag needs it! Take a few drops of the gel you use to cleanse your face and wash it with lukewarm water. It may be necessary to repeat this several times. Why face gel? The makeup bag is where you organize the different brushes and products you apply to your skin, so by using this gel, you can avoid any potential allergic reactions.
It’s time to put everything back where it belongs. To do this, start by categorizing everything. Separate all the lipsticks, all the lip glosses, all the pencils, etc. Which ones will you put in your everyday makeup bag that you keep in your purse and which ones will stay at home?
The first group of products can be organized in smaller bags or just one, but with small sections inside. For the second group of products, follow the advice in the following paragraphs.
Which Marie Kondo storage box to use?
You can buy an organizer designed by Marie Kondo, but if you use her methods properly, there will be no need to invest in new items. You just have to be creative. Personally, I use the hard plastic boxes from Ferrero Rocher. They are transparent, without stickers, and therefore turn into perfect storage boxes. I put my lipsticks inside, vertically, as well as eyeliners, makeup sponges, serums and eye creams. Another option is to take a shoebox and separate it into sections using toilet paper rolls or smaller boxes. Easy, isn’t it!
