Kugel is a classic dish that is often eaten during the Hanukkah celebrations. It’s sweet, It’s easy to make and a great addition to your family dinner this Hanukkah 2023! So, what will you need to make it?

Ingredients:

  • 1 package (12 ounces wide egg noodles)
  • 8 tbsp. (1 stick) unsalted butter cut into pieces + some for buttering the pan
  • 2 cups/ 450 gr cottage cheese
  • 2 cups/ 490 gr sour cream
  • 1 cup raisins/ 160 gr
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups/487 ml whole milk
  • ½ cup/100 gr sugar
  • 2 tsp.pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp. kosher salt
  • Grated zest and strained juice of 1 orange

Classic Kugel Recipe Instructions

  1. Begin by preheating the oven to 350 °F/ 175°C. Then prepare a 9 by 13-inch baking pan and butter it.
  2. In a bowl, pour in the orange juice and mix with the raisins. Set aside to soak.
  3. Cook the noodles per package instructions.
  4. In a bowl of medium size, whisk together the cottage cheese, sour cream, sugar, milk, eggs, orange zest, vanilla, cinnamon and salt. Then add the plumped raisins and up to 1 tablespoon of any remaining orange juice.
  5. Drain the noodles and return them to the pot, and then add the pieces of butter. Toss until melted.
  6. Add cottage cheese to the mix and gently stir until all is well combined. Transfer the noodles to the prepared pan.
  7. Bake the kugel for an hour and 15 minutes. It should look a bit bubbly around the edges and pretty well browned. For a crunchy top, broil for 1 or 2 minutes.
  8. Transfer the cooked kugel to a wire rack and leave to cool for 15 minutes before you serve it. Enjoy!
