Modern chair design with sculptural shape by Louw Roets
South African designer Louw Roets presents his vision of modern chair design with a unique piece that reminds of an artistic sculpture. Based in Cape-Town the designer has been dedicated to the task to show people the positive effect of combining design and economy. This chair is called Poise and the name origins from the old French word “pois” which means “weight, balance”.
As the designer himself explains much of his inspiration comes from the design philosophy of Isamu Moguchi and the idea that everything is sculpted. Louw Roets’s pieces have this artistic vision as if they were sculptured and yet have kept the ability of being functional. Known for working mostly with wood or leather, in the Poise chair, we see how beautifully the designer has combined these two materials to achieve graceful and balanced lines which. And we can enjoy a modern chair design with elegant lines.
The name of this modern chair might make you think of a seating where you could keep a good posture, while the emotional meaning of the word refers to composure and self-confidence. The Poise chair is manufactured form oak veneer, solid oak leg tips, steel, and the seat & backrest are from moulded and heat-pressed plywood. The wood is treated with Teak timber oil. The upholstery is from kudu leather and is removable. A piece of art like this contemporary chair design, will be a thrilling accent and find its place in many public or home interiors.
