There are so many ways to style and shape your eyebrows that you can quickly feel overwhelmed. No two eyebrows are the same, which means everyone’s path to the “perfect” look is a little different. Choose the right product for your natural eyebrow makeup look

Makeup artists recommend using different eyebrow products depending on the hair growth. If you have thick, bushy eyebrows, you should opt for a brow gel that tames the hairs and keeps them in shape. For thin eyebrows that need more shape, use a brow pencil or eyebrow powder to create volume and shape.

If you have dark hair, choose a color that’s a shade or two lighter than the natural color of your eyebrows. On the other hand, if you have light hair and want to enhance your eyebrows, you can opt for a shade that is half a shade to one shade darker.

Filling in the eyebrows is a great way to define them. In this way you can frame your face and polish your look. Stock up on some eyebrow pencils, small brushes, and eyebrow powder, and read on to get started!

First brush the eyebrows

Brushing your eyebrows will give you an idea of which areas need to be filled in. This will also help you determine if there are some hairs that need to be removed. Use tweezers to remove any stray hairs above and below the eyebrow.

Outline the eyebrows

Eyebrows should be outlined with a pen first

Using a thin eyebrow pencil, draw symmetrical “twin” outlines for each eyebrow. Start at the bottom of the brow and lightly trace the natural shape.

The most important thing is that you create some shape with small, hair-like strokes. Make sure the front of your eyebrows doesn’t look angled or too harsh. Also, don’t pull the end of your eyebrows up too far, as this can pull the face down. To achieve a natural look, avoid an overly pointed or exaggerated arch and instead focus on a simple and gentle curve.

If you want to soften prominent facial features or a strong jawline, you can create a gently rounded eyebrow shape. If you’d rather emphasize a round face and narrow features, flatter them with a clear, angular eyebrow.

If you’ve over-plucked in the past, then know you’re not alone. To conceal sparse eyebrows, you can fill them in with eyebrow powder or pencil.

  • Fill in the eyebrows with powder: dab your brush (preferably a small eyebrow brush) into the powder, tap off the excess powder on the side of the powder container and begin to lightly fill in the top and bottom of your eyebrows. Continue at your eyebrow bone and work your way down both sides. Follow the direction of your hair growth when filling in. Stay within the edges you drew with the eyebrow pencil. You don’t want to apply too much powder and go past where your eyebrow hairs actually are. Eyebrow powder is perfect when you just want to lightly fill in or darken your eyebrows and it only takes about a minute.
  • Fill in with an eyebrow pencil: If you prefer thinner eyebrows, use a small-tipped brow pencil to mimic the look of your natural eyebrows. Fill in the eyebrows with two different pencils, one lighter and one darker. Use the darker shade to fill in the outer areas, starting at the arch, and the lighter shade to fill in the inside of the eyebrows. Use light, short strokes that mimic natural hair growth.
  • Fix Eyebrow Makeup: Once you’ve filled in your eyebrows, use an eyebrow gel to fix them. You can use a clear or colored fixing gel for even more accuracy. Sweep the brush up and outward through the eyebrows to gently blend the pencil lines with the natural hairs. Now gently stroke through the eyebrows with short, upward strokes.

Finally clean the edges

Clean the edges of your eyebrows with a concealer

Use a concealer under the eyebrows instead of a highlighter. Outlining them with highlighter can make the eyebrow bones too prominent. Instead, opt for a concealer that’s a shade lighter than your skin tone to brighten your eyebrow area while still looking natural.
