How to Remove Creases from Leather Shoes?

In order to tackle any damage on leather shoes, first you have to identify the leather type! If they’re made of vinyl or patent leather first you’ll have to give them a good clean with mild soap and a clean soft cloth. For velour or nubuck shoes, you must only use a specified cleaning brush. Once you’ve cleaned all the dirt off your shoes, you are ready to move on to the next step – de-wrinkling.

A really important step that a lot of people miss because it’s not common knowledge, is the need to condition your shoes’ leather. There is a specific conditioner for every leather type, so make sure you choose the right one for the particular pair that you are working with. This step will help soften the leather and add a thin protective film against wear and tear. All you have to do is:

  • Apply the conditioner evenly on the surface of both shoes.
  • Let it sit for 1–2 minutes. Do NOT leave it on for a longer period of time, as it may cause discoloration.
  • Take a clean cloth and wipe off the excess with gentle circular motions.

Step 2: Stuff Your Shoes with Socks

It is important for your shoes to keep their shape while you are performing any type of cleaning or maintenance on them, especially after they have been conditioned, and the leather is softened. The easiest way to do that is to take a pair of thick socks, or layer two pairs, roll them up tightly, and stick them down into the shoe.

Step 3: Use a Hair Dryer

Now, moving on to the actual process of removing the creases from your leather shoes. For this step, all you’re going to need is a hair dryer. Set it on the lowest heat setting, then point it at the wrinkled area and start moving it in circular motions. Keep a fair distance between the nozzle and the shoe and make sure that you don’t keep it pointed at one area for too long as this may cause damage to the leather. Do this until you see that all the wrinkles are gone!

Once you’re done with this step, apply a protective coat specified for the type of leather of your shoes and let them sit with the stuffed socks inside for 24 hours. After that, your shoes will look good as new and be ready to wear!
