There are different types of heart materials and some preliminary information is an absolute must before choosing the design of your heart. The heart must be made of non-combustible materials in case any stray sparks or embers escaped the fireplace. The fireplace heart combined with a unique fireplace screen makes a big difference not only to the way the fireplace looks but to the whole interior of the room. Stone hearts, such as granite, marble, travertine add a touch of class and elegance to the home. Glass hearts will look great and modern. Make sure that these are made of safety glass. Slate is another contemporary option as it adds a polished shiny accent to the interior. Some hearts can be edged with metal ornaments to enhance their strength.
