Cocktails for New Years Eve: Hot Buttered Rum

The butter gives the rum that depth that it needs, and the spices makes the drink perfect and complete. Let’s find out how to make it!
Description: velvety, buttery, rich, spicy, sweet
Ingredients for the batter:
- 1 stick of butter
- 1/2 cup (100 g) brown sugar
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- pinch of salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
For each cocktail:
- 2/3 cup (160 ml) hot water
- 2 tablespoon (1 ounces) from the batter
- 2 ounces (60 ml) dark rum
- whipped cream for garnish
Preparation:
- Start by preparing the batter first. In a small sauce pan combine all the ingredients over medium heat. Stir well until the butter is melted and everything is combines completly. It should not take more than 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool for a bit.
- When making each cocktail, pour the 160 ml of hot water into a cup and add 2 tablespoons from the batter. Stir well until everything is combined completly.
- Then you need to add the 60 ml of dark rum and make sure you stir very well again. All the ingredients should look mixed. If you taste it and it is not sweet enough, just add more batter and stir well again.
- If you want that extra creaminess, top it off with whipped cream and a little bit of nutmeg. It will have this festive holiday vibe.
