Here is a list of the tools and items you will need to make your very own outdoor faucet cover:

  • Measuring tape
  • Insulating foam board
  • Marker
  • Utility knife or scissors
  • Weather-resistant material (example: stainless steel fabric)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Elastic cord or drawstring

Step 1: Measuring and marking

Start your work by using the measuring tape to take note of the dimensions of your outdoor faucet. Measure its length and circumference to ensure that you make a cover that will fit accurately. Then mark the measurements of the faucet on the insulating foam board.

Step 2: Cut out the marked part of the foam board

By following the measurements you just made on the insulating foam board, use a utility knife or a pair of scissors to carefully cut out the part you will be using to cover the outdoor faucet. Ensure a snug fit around the faucet to provide adequate insulation.

Step 3: Shaping the DIY faucet cover

To shape the DIY faucet cover, cut out a small section of the foam board to create a semicircular shape that will fit around the faucet. This will make sure that the cover gets to easily slide over the outdoor faucet, while providing it with complete insulation at the same time.

Step 4: Cover with weather-resistant material

Now is time to put the cut-out insulation foam board piece in place and cover it with weather-resistant material. Some people might use an old t-shirt or plastic bag for this step, but to be as sure as possible that your faucet cover will work just right, you can use a strong material like stainless steel fabric that you can find at the hardware store. For extra precaution, use the hot glue gun to make sure the material stays in place and provides protection.

Step 5: Last step for extra security

Use an elastic cord or drawstring to secure the weather-resistant material around the cover. This will create a closure system. Attach the closure system securely with the hot glue gun. You are all done!
