What Makes Mascara Waterproof?

You know how developed the makeup industry is lately and we can safely say that there are countless different formulas of waterproof mascaras. They usually don’t contain oil but are mainly made of silicons, wax, and an ingredient called dimethicone copolyol.  If you want to remove it successfully, you have to use products that are oil-based and that will decompose the silicons and wax.

How to Remove Waterproof Mascara Without Makeup Remover?

Many women are trying to remove their waterproof mascara with water and rubbing their eyes with cotton pads. However, this can be very damaging for your eyelids, since the skin is very sensitive in this particular area. Even if you don’t have waterproof makeup remover, you can still easily decompose your mascara. Oils are the answer! You can grab coconut oil, baby oil, olive oil, etc.

  • Put some of the oil on two makeup pads.
  • Close your eyes and gently place the makeup pads on your eyes, without rubbing them.
  • Keep them for at least one minute, until the mascara starts gradually to decompose.
  • Then start from the top, going downwards to gently remove the mascara. Again, don’t rub your eyes! It is very important!
  • You can remove the excess oil and mascara, by washing your face with water or with cleanser.

How to Take Off Waterproof Mascara Easily?

Nowadays, we all have micellar water at home that we use every day to remove our makeup and clean our face. The micellar water will become your best friend, when it comes to removing waterproof mascara. All you are going to need is a little bit of it and two makeup pads, or q-tips to remove it successfully.

  • Grab your micellar water and put some on your makeup pads or q-tips.
  • If you are using q-tips, start rubbing your eyelashes very very gently. If you are using makeup pads, use the same method as we described above with the oils.
  • If you notice that there is any excess mascara, you can wash your face with warm water.

Cold Cream for Waterproof Mascara

Unlike the regular creams, cold cream is an emulsion of small amounts of water in a greater amount of oil. The term “cold cream” refers to the numbing sensation the cream left behind on the skin. Because of the big amounts of oil, cold cream is great to remove any kind of makeup, but especially waterproof mascara. All you need is to rub a little bit onto your eyelashes and massage gently. You are going to see how the mascara will dissolve slowly. Then you have to wash your face with water to remove it. You can do your regular skincare routine afterwards.

Does Petroleum Jelly Removes Waterproof Mascara?

We know that petroleum jelly has many benefits, especially on cold days when our lips are chapped, our skin is dry, or our nails are dehydrated. But did you know that it can actually be used to remove waterproof mascara? Yes, that’s right! Because of the oily consistency, the petroleum jelly can be very helpful and can easily remove any waterproof makeup. You can simply take a small amount of it and rub your eyelashes very carefully. Take Off Waterproof Mascara with Eye Makeup Remover

Last but not least, you can also go for the obvious method and use a classical eye makeup remover and take off your waterproof mascara. There are several versions of these products that you can try out in 2023. Our only recommendation is to use something that is also hydrating, because some products can even make your eyelids dry. Also, it is very important to note that you don’t need to rub your eyes aggressively. Let the product sit on your eyes for a couple of seconds before you wash it off completely.
