Now, let’s focus on the steps you need to follow to get the best results for multi tone hair color at home.

It is very important to note that if you are new to this, you have to choose colors that doesn’t require hair bleaching, since this is going to make the process way harder. Also, ALWAYS use gloves when dyeing your hair! Now, follow these easy steps:

Triangle Sectioning Hair: Color Melting Technique

The first step to multi tone hair color at home is the right sectioning technique. The Geodesic sectioning technique will help you to melt the colors in the best possible way from your roots. Essentially, you have to divide your locks into triangles as shown on the picture below, which will help you choose exactly where to place the hair dye. Hair Foiling Technique at Home

You have to grab your hair foil and use the good-old technique that we are all familiar with. Place a sheet of the foil below the hair section that you are going to dye. Apply the hair color and fold, creating squares. The foil plays the role of a barrier between the different colors that you are going to use. Make sure that the foil is tightly folded.

How to Dye Your Hair at Home?

Now it’s time to start with the dyeing itself! First determine which colors on which sections of hair will be, so that it does not become a chaotic experience. As we have already said, the dyeing is done only with gloves and a dye brush, which should be thin. Also, remember that the foil technique should be used for optimal dyeing and easier separation of the different colors. Once you dye your hair, you have to let it sit for a while. Depending on the hair dye you choose, it can take up to 1 hour for some. Read the instructions carefully. We also suggest using the same brand for all the colors that you are going to apply. Like that you are going to follow the same requirements for all hair dye.

How to Rinse Off The Hair Dye?

There is a technique on how to rinse off the hair dye as well. You should be careful, since there’s a chance that you can mix the darker and lighter shades, which will lead to muddy-looking colors. That’s why, we rinse off the darker shades first, until the water turns clear and there’s no dye anymore. After that you can also rinse off the lighter colors. It is recommended to use cold water, if you want to maintain the color properly. It is better to wash your hair in the sink and in front of a mirror, because you can separate the colors better.
