It’s important to choose the decorating technique depending on how much time and effort you want to invest in the process. If you want to have more intricate elements, it’s best to use templates. Keep in mind that unless you are using premade fondant, it is a much more time-consuming process to make it and decorate with it than, for example, with frosting or chocolate. Let’s explore different options together and help you choose the best one for you!

Ghost Cupcakes with White Fondant

For this recipe, it’s best to buy premade white fondant as it’s quite easily accessible on the market and will save you a bunch of precious time! Roll it out thin enough for you to be able to manipulate it with your fingers. The idea here is to make the material look like a loose hanging sheet – just like with ghosts! For the eyes, you can use chocolate chips or small edible fondant buttons.

Once you’ve shaped your little ghosts, carefully place them on top of your muffins. You can use a toothpick to fix them in place.

Make Your Own Chocolate Spiders and Spider Webs

Turning your cupcakes into spooky spiders is super easy and there are a few different ways you can do it. Let’s see what they are:

  • Once you have your cupcakes, you’re basically halfway there, as they will serve as the body of your spiders. The only things that are left to add are the legs and the eyes. Put aside one of the cupcakes to cut out little circles for the heads from it. Arrange them on plates and use chocolate frosting to attach them together. Then with the same frosting draw the legs (4 on each side), and the final touch – red chocolate buttons for the eyes!

  • Another way to make the legs is with thin strips of licorice. Cut them at an appropriate length according to the size of your cupcakes, and poke them into the fluffy top part of the dessert.
  • To create spider webs you’re going to need white sugar frosting. Put it into a piping bag and draw the webs onto a stretch foil. Once they’ve hardened, carefully peel them off the foil and place them on top of the cupcakes.

Scary Brain Cupcake Decoration

For this striking decoration, you’re going to need to draw the wrinkles of the brain onto the cupcake using white buttercream frosting and a piping bag. Then, using a small teaspoon take a little bit of red powdered food coloring and sprinkle it on top of the frosting to get the same effect as the one in the picture!

Mummies

Using the same buttercream frosting from the previous recipe, you can recreate these not-so-scary mummies! Around this time of the year, it’s quite easy to find chocolate eyes for decoration, so you won’t have any difficulties recreating this Halloween dessert!
