A spectacular residential project, designed by Specht Harpman architects, the Cliff Dwelling is located in Lake Austin, Texas, USA. The house was completed in 2013 and features an unusual and creative approach using the frame of a 1970s building. This modern home design is completely out of the box and breaks traditions and conventional ideas for house building and home renovation.
Modern home design ideas – a dramatic entryway through the rooftop garden
Many people are not feeling comfortable with unusual thinking and solutions. However, taking the limitations and turning them into an advantage does require some bold thinking. The Cliff dwelling offered a major challenge as the existing home was suspended on a narrow limestone ridge halfway down a cliff and the entryway was initially 25 feet down from the street level.
When the renovation project started, the idea was to transform an old home into a modern one and keep some of the elements which had personal importance to the owners. After the completion we see some really creative modern home design ideas and the most spectacular one of them is to move the entrance at the roof of the house. The result is that the owners have an elegant rooftop garden which offers them a view of Lake Austin.
Modern home design ideas – unique interior solutions
Besides the amazing home entrance, the interiors, furniture of choice, accessories – everything has unique features which give a special individual character to the home. There are many modern home design ideas but rarely creativity and uniqueness are so well combined. Although the Cliff dwelling was built in the 1970’s, the complete renovation turned an old house into a modern residence. A modern staircase takes you down to the lower levels which accommodate the living areas and the bedrooms. Rustic and industrial style elements are combined in the interior and stand out with the special character. The basic neutral color scheme is a backdrop for bold blue and green color pops in the different rooms.
