Cedar wood, natural stone and glass in a modern house in California
In This Article
House Set On The Valley is a modern house, located in California, USA, on a large spot lined with trees and vineyards , yet close to the city center. The house was finished in 2014 and Jørgensen Design are behind the modern vision of the project.
The project features two houses connected by glass. Each house is individually protected from a busy road by two L-shaped walls made of stone and cedar. Behind these walls you find a lot of lovely patios and courtyards. Each courtyard has its own garden ambience. Cedar wood, natural stone and glass characterize the interior and exterior of the house and each design element is in harmony with the surrounding landscape.
Cedar wood, natural stone and glass combined harmoniously in a modern house
The garden at the entrance of this spectacular modern house is designed to resemble a porch deck. The door is solid, handmade from a single tree from the plot. Through the front door you go into a small glass foyer, which connects the two main walls of the house. A sliding door paneled with cedar wood is on one side while the other side has a passage through a solid stone wall. The sliding door opens onto a garden and guest rooms, while the passage leads to the main house areas.

The main house opens onto the vineyards and has 270 degree views of the surrounding mountains Mayacamas, Mt. St. Helena and Stags Leap. The guest rooms have a view of the vineyards in the South, Stone Mountain, Mt. Vedeer and the city nearby. The covered outdoor areas are a place where you can enjoy nature throughout the year. The interiors of this modern house feature clean lines and neutral colors accented by the wood and natural stone.
