What is Structured Manicure: Get Ready for Strong and Long Nails in 2023!
Not all of us have strong nails that are not susceptible to breaking. I can’t tell you the times I’ve dreamed of long nails, and the moment I let them grow they start to break. This is because the nail plate is very thin and when the nail grows, because of the weight and length it breaks. However, there is now a new technique that many manicurists are using – the structured manicure. What exactly is it? Let me explain!
What Is a Structured Manicure?
The structured manicure is a nail technique that the experts use to create a stronger nail plate. They use a builder gel, which is under the gel polish, to create a more durable nail plate. That way, your manicure will stay longer and your nails will be secure, since they will not break that easily. This technique is mainly used to make your nails thicker and more even. The result is that you will get a long-lasting manicure, without worrying that your long nails might break. For the ladies out there with thin nails, this is the ideal solution for you!
The Two Types of Structured Manicure
There are two types of structured manicure – soft and hard. It all depends on from the builder gel used in the process. Your nail expert will decide, which one to use according to your need and your nail plate (or how thin it is). The difference between the two is that if you want to remove the soft gel builder, you can use acetone. But, if you want to remove the hard builder gel, you will have to file it off. If you use these gels, keep in mind that your nails should be cured under a LED Lamp.
We should also mention the fact that hybrid structured manicure also exist. They are not a mixture between the two, but instead manicure experts use a hybrid gel and acrylic formula and they cure the nails under UV or LED Lamp.

- Using a file, make sure that you shape your nails, depending on how you want them to look. A piece of advice: square and almond shapes are the easiest to work with. Clean your nail plate with alcohol wipe, when you’re done.
- Now, it’s time for the base coat! Some nail experts say that no matter what structure gel you’ll use, you have to have a base coat before that. So, make sure you don’t skip on that step. Cure your nails in the UV or LED lamp as per usual.
- You have to apply the builder gel now (soft or hard, depending on what you want). Keep in mind that you have to be extra careful, if you are using a hard builder gel. Make sure that the surface is even and then cure your nails.
- If there’s a tacky layer after, you have to remove it, using a cotton pad and acetone.
- Here comes the fun part! Choose your nail color and apply the gel polish on top of the builder and cure as usual.
