How to rewire a lamp – six easy steps and useful tips

How to rewire a lamp in six steps
The tools and materials you will need are as follows:
- pliers
- screwdriver
- wire cutter
- lamp rewiring kit, which contains a socket, cord and plug.
How to rewire a lamp – Step 1 – remove the socket
Before starting make sure the lighting fixture is not plugged in and remove the socket.
Step 2 – cut the old wires
Use the wire cutter to cut/disconnect the old wires and then tie the new wires. This is done by stripping the ends of the new cord. After you have stripped the ends, connect the ends of the old and new wires together and twist the strands clockwise and wrap the connection with an electrical tape.
Step 3 – pull the new cord
Pull out the new wire through the lamp.
How to rewire a lamp – Step 4 – connect the wires
With the help of a screwdriver loosen the screws on the sides of the new socket and wrap each wire around a screw. Tighten the screws firmly and hold the wires in place. Cut off excess wire. Make sure there are no loose strands or exposed bare wire.
Step 5 – slide the socket
Slide the new socket over the new cord and tighten.
Step 6 – check the light
Slip the sleeve in place until it gets on its place. Slide the outer shell and position it securely in the cap. Test the wire by plugging it into an outlet.
