Voelklip House by SAOTA – a perfection in contemporary house designs

 

Voelklip is a stunning dream house, designed by SAOTA and Antoni Associates and is located in Hermanus, South Africa. This example of contemporary house designs was completed in 2009. The design was created for a beach house, suitable for a family of four.

Since it is built on a long gently sloping rectangular site the architect took the chance to split the levels of living space and placed lounge and dining area above the bedrooms which are on the ground floor. Showing the best in contemporary house designs all rooms and the terrace are planned to have a fantastic sea view. A connection between the house, the sea and the surrounding is established and it is elegantly and beautifully nestled in the coast line. The materials selection was pointed at enhancing the beach character of the building while all details and touches have a mark of sophistication and style – white cement screed floors to the public areas, concrete ceilings, external timber decks, screens and shutters.

The top level of the interior houses the family areas which have double height, as well as the kitchen and dining area and the pool. Lime washed oak was used for the flooring of the lounge, the dining area and lower-ground bedroom. The dining room is exceptionally elegant with a noticeable candle light chandelier. This area not only gives the impression but is the heart of the house. The lounge area is furnished with outdoor beds for relaxation, pillows and comfortable armchairs. All in natural colours give the feeling of complete comfort while reminding that the house has a connection with the sea. The contemporary designs of SAOTA are showing the innovation and the devotion in the approach to every project and this spectacular beach-house is coming as a wonderful proof of that.
