Wednesday Addams Dress: How To Make It Yourself? Step By Step Tutorial

The Little Black Dress will never be the same after Netflix’s remake of The Addams Family. In the series, there is an outfit that went viral in no time. People around the world copied the style at the end of last year and here we go again. A few days before Halloween, one of the most frequently asked questions on the web is “Where can I find Wednesday Addams dress?”. Before giving you all the possibilities, let’s first see how it was invented.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood explains that Wednesday Addams’ famous ball gown came from the Alaïa boutique in London. The prices are not affordable, especially if you are looking for a Halloween costume. But the good thing is that you can recreate the model yourself or find a copy in stores.

How to Make Wednesday Addams Dress?

You will need 3 different fabrics: tullе, organza and a non-see-through stretch fabric of your choice. Of course, all in black. Keep in mind that sewing the dress yourself does not mean it will be cheaper. Sometimes it’s quite the opposite.

Tutorial 2 step by step

Here is a another tutorial from Elisabeth Moore that you can follow. You will need:

• 3 yards/m of black polyester taffeta
• 9 yards/m of black smooth nylon organza
• 4 black buttons
• 1 spool of black thread

Start by sewing the top. Cut out two similar pieces of organza as shown in the photo. Fold the button placket widthwise, so that its two folded edges surround the raw edge of the yoke. Stitch the folded edges of the button placket together.

Sew the front and back panels together at the shoulder seams. Then add your buttons and buttonholes.

Cut 3 strips of organza to make the top ruffles. The smaller they are, the more voluminous the ruffles will be. Next, sew a narrow rolled hem to the bottom of all the strips. Finally, sew the ruffles to the entire outer edge of the yoke, matching their seams. You will also see it in the video. They must be located on 3 different levels.

The skirt is much easier to make. To make it, you have to cut pieces of circles from the taffeta and organza. Then sew them together. The second piece is actually the overskirt. Additionally, cut a strip to make the ruffle of the skirt. Once you have sawn the two pieces: the top and the bottom. Make an organza belt and sew it onto the skirt to highlight your waist.
